Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 medium onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper; stir well.
  4. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  5. Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and beef broth; stir to combine.
  6. Let simmer for about 10 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly, stirring occasionally.
  7. Toast the hamburger buns lightly on a separate skillet if desired.
  8. Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, then top with shredded Gruyère cheese.
  9. Place the top bun on and serve immediately.
