With layers of flaky, buttery biscuits enveloping tender, flavorful beef and served alongside a rich au jus for dipping, French Dip Biscuits make for a satisfying and comforting dish that elevates any casual gathering or weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter chilled and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound roast beef thinly sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Cut in the chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead 2-3 times to bring it together.
  6. Roll or pat the dough to about 1-inch thickness and cut into biscuits.
  7. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While baking, prepare the au jus by simmering beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper in a saucepan.
  10. Once the biscuits are ready, remove them from the oven, and let them cool slightly before serving.
